KidsART

A fun, two-year class for our youngest artists who love to draw and paint!
1 & 1/2 hours.
  • Class #104 > Mondays at 4:15 - 5:45
  • Class #304 > Wednesdays at 4:15 - 5:45

Overview:
A very fun time using markers, paint, pencils and plenty of creativity. Artistic concepts and techniques are introduced to the children in entertaining ways. Sometimes we incorporate cartooning into the class, and we have group projects and games to break things up. All the tables are kid height, too. The primary element of teaching art to this age is encouragment with simple directions and lots of materials.

  • Students participate in the Art Show in May.
  • 10-student limit in classroom with professional instructor.
  • A parent corner in the classroom is available.
  • Sibling play room is available if parent-monitored.
  • At the end of the year, there is a final 3-D painting project. Last year we made painted stuffed animal rocking chairs! See one in the art show picture to the right.

    In-depth:
This is a beginning class that has 2 years of lessons. Classes are aimed toward preparing the student for the concepts that they'll learn as they progress through the later years of art classes. For instance, although we use washable tempera paints instead of permanent artist acrylics, we use the same basic 10 color palette that is used in all the upper classes. Entertaining lessons, such as making half a face, and then holding it up to a mirror, leads to learning about symetrical balance and facial drawing skills. Even the games support artistic concepts. We don't call any of our work a "mistake", but instead refer to work as either "learners" or "keepers". (yay!)

    Tuition: $855 for 35 sessions.
or 9 monthly payments of $95 (there is also a once-a-year $25 registration fee)

    Other information:

Wear old clothes if possible to our classes. When we paint, it can stain clothing, even though it is "washable". The main thing is long loose sleeves that can drag in our paints during colder months. Tight sleeves that can be pushed and will stay up are great.
