During the traditional school year.

Many of our classes fill to capacity. Please call for availability and with any questions.

THERE ARE WEEKLY CLASSES FOR ALL AGES FROM 4 & UP, INCLUDING TEENS AND ADULTS.

Each course has 35 classes during the traditional school year from August to May. Early registration means you can pick your best spot. If you join a class later, (anytime before March), we pro-rate the tuition and will work to get you the basics so that you can enjoy each lesson.

Each class meets once a week
.

• Every class has a limit of only 10 students!

We begin after Williamson Co. schools do, on the week of Monday, Aug. 22nd and continue the course until just before Memorial Day on May 25th.

Tuition is $900 for the entire school year, (9 installments of $100 each) and includes all 35 classes plus our 9 free Open Studio Saturdays (for ages 8 and up only. For the KidsART classes, ages 4 through 7, supplies are included in tuition, other classes must purchase supplies for the year).
(There is a $25 registration fee)

After you've scrolled down and seen our courses, and looked at the calendar-style schedules below, please call or Email Dennas, our director, with questions. Thanks!

• All of our ART AND CARTOONING COURSES are described briefly below. Click the TITLE for an in-depth description page and a list of offered classes for next year.

KidsART & ARTPark class - Our Big-Picture, Big-Fun art classes for early artists.
Ages 4&5, or ages 6&7
Overview:
KidsART is a fun class that has two years of lessons. We spend time using markers, oil pastels, watercolors and tempera paints. Most of the class is spent giving young artists the materials and simple directions they need to explore as well as encouraging them in their work. There are also previews of art foundations woven into the lessons.
Our new ARTPark class has all kinds of fun for ages 4 & 5 with hands-on play and exploration at our ARTPark stations.
1 & 1/2 HOURS

Art Foundations - Our comprehensive course for beginners & accomplished artists who want to expand their knowledge base. The Foundations class includes drawing and painting techniques, foundational lessons, and time for self-expression too.
Ages 8 and up, TEENS, and ADULT classes.
Homeschoolers have special classes at 2:00 on Wednesdays and Thursdays for age levels 2, 3 & 4.
Afterschool Students have several classes to choose from. check the schedules below.
Overview: Foundational art lessons for new artists as well as those who have been working on their talents for years. Learn how to draw more accurately, learn different techniques for drawing and painting, and learn how to mix colors. We teach in 3 ways, alternating from one to another to keep the classes interesting. We teach to the head: focusing on foundational knowledge, to the hand: how to do specific techniques, and to the heart: having the freedom for self-expression. This course has two years of lessons that students rotate through. Artists work on different projects and use different techniques each of the two years, yet the focus is on the same basic concepts.Click the color banners for more info. This course can be taken for as many years as you like, as the projects are always personal and instruction is one-on-one for much of the class period.
1 HOUR & 45 MINUTES

Foundations/Expressions
Ages 11 and up
Overview: A mix of the two classes for 2nd-year students and higher.

Art Expressions - Our advanced class for artists who have begun to find their own vision or want to expand it.
Ages 11 and up and adult classes.
Overview:
An advanced class for students, who have finished at least 1 or 2 years of Art Foundations classes at Firstlight. This is for students who are stong creatively, and maturing in their artistic thought processes. The focus is on self-expressive projects, with attention to higher-level curriculum, such as color schemes and content. Some assignments are commercial, but most are in the fine arts category.
In the 2nd and 3rd year of Art Expressions, each student works with the instructor to create an individual course for their portfolio, focusing on their chosen direction for the future, whether that be as a professional or as a hobby.
1 HOUR & 45 MINUTES

Toons 1 - Our first year for cartoonists
Ages 10 and up / ALSO NEW homeschool toons on Wednesdays
Overview: First year cartooning covers the basics. Students learn how to develop characters, create strong images, backgrounds, draw from reference material, and make a short comic book.
1 & 1/2 HOURS

Advanced Toons
Ages 11 and up
Overview: - The regular Toons class must be taken previously, or a portfolio can be submitted to bypass that course if the artist has already develped their work.
This is an advanced cartooning class for students who want to learn realistic, human-based cartooning such as you see in comic books with hero characters and japanese style comics like Manga. It's also for students who do more classic or TV style animation work, but are advancing their skills. It is also good to have had a year of Art 1, but is not required. We'll work on heads, hands, arms & legs, as well as body stance and action poses.
1 & 1/2 HOURS

Please call or email to make sure that there are still openings in our classes.
UPDATE: some classes have openings left.
Student count: 190
